It’s been a busy couple of weeks for Baylor alumni Chip (BBA ’98) and Joanna (BA ’01) Gaines. First, they learned that their show on HGTV, Fixer Upper, has been picked up for a second season; then yesterday, they made their first appearance on NBC’s Today to promote the show and share remodeling tips.
Fixer Upper debuted in April on HGTV. The 12-episode first season showed off the Gaines’ renovation and design expertise as they remodeled homes around Waco and Central Texas, including the homes of several Baylor alumni, faculty and staff members (including one whose family had been affected by the West explosion last year). The Gaines’ talents fit so nicely into the network’s lineup (and attracted such strong ratings) that filming began for a second season even before the first-season finale aired. The 13-episodes of season two will likely begin airing in January.
On Today, the couple shared tips for parents with kids leaving for college who want to make the child’s bedroom more usable. You can watch their appearance here:
Fans of the show can check out before-and-after photos from each episode on the website for Magnolia Homes, the couple’s company. The site also features Joanna’s blog and links to some of Magnolia’s other offerings, including an online store for home accessories.
Sic ’em, Chip and Joanna!
